TAVR Eligibility

Is Your Patient Elligible for TAVR?

Your patient may be eligible for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement if

1. The patient has any of the following symptoms:

  • Frailty
  • Fatigue, slow gait

2. The Patient has any of the following risk factors:

  • History of stroke/CVA
  • History of syncope
  • Prior chest radiation
  • Old age
  • Reduced EF, Heavily calcified aorta
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Prior CABG
  • Prior open chest surgery
  • History of COPD
  • History of CAD
  • History of renal insufficiency
  • Diabetes and hypertension
  • History of Afib

3. The patient has severe, symptomatic calcified native aortic valve stenosis

4. The patient does not have severe aortic insufficiency

5. The patient has an ejection fraction greater than 20

6. If an echocardiogram can show if the patient has severe aortic stenosis:

  • Valve area: Less than 1.0 cm2
  • Mean gradient: Greater than 40 mmHg
  • Jet velocity: Greater than 4.0 m/s

Potentially eligible patients can be referred to Scott Sweat, RN, Valve Care coordinator, at 731-541-CARE (2273). Your patient’s records will be required upon referral. Our multidisciplinary TAVR team will work closely with you to develop the treatment plan best suited to your patient’s needs.
